What one sitting is like

Each sitting runs the three parts in the official order: Speaking and Writing, then Reading, then Listening. It includes Respond to a Situation and Summarize Group Discussion, the two speaking tasks Pearson added on 7 August 2025.

Speaking responses are recorded in the browser and scored automatically against PTE's published traits, such as content, oral fluency and pronunciation. Listening passages and spoken prompts play from audio files made for each question with synthetic voices, not from recordings of human speakers.

Your report
Your report opens the moment you hand the test in: your score, a section-by-section breakdown, and anything still being scored, named and added as it arrives.
AI Tutor
Your PTE test is over and your report is open: pick a mistake on your results page and the AI Tutor starts from there. It asks you the question and writes the steps out on the board, so you find where you went wrong rather than being handed the answer. The first 2 mistakes are free, for up to 10 minutes.

Scoring and differences

Speaking and writing responses are scored automatically against the published traits, and the report estimates an overall score on the 10–90 scale with skill breakdowns. It is not a Pearson score.

  • Our sitting is timed at 150 minutes: 83 for Speaking and Writing, 29 for Reading and 38 for Listening, each inside the range Pearson publishes.
  • Speaking tasks need a working microphone and a supported browser.

After your PTE test: the AI Tutor

On the PTE it works through Listening and Reading questions. Your PTE Writing (Write Essay, Summarize Written Text, Summarize Spoken Text) text is coached against Pearson's published scoring traits. On the Speaking tasks it works from the transcript of your recording; it does not re-score pronunciation or fluency.

Questions

How many times can I take each PTE practice test?

Each test can be sat up to 2 times. If you close the tab in the middle of a sitting, your answers are saved and the same sitting resumes when you return.

Do I need a microphone?

Yes, for the speaking tasks. Use a current version of Chrome, Edge or Safari, allow microphone access when asked, and use headphones so the prompt audio is not picked up by the microphone.

How is the audio produced?

They play from audio files generated for each question. The voices are synthetic, so accents and pacing are more uniform than on the real test.

Is the score official?

No. Speaking and writing responses are scored automatically against the published traits, and the report estimates an overall score on the 10–90 scale with skill breakdowns. It is not a Pearson score.

Is there a free PTE test?

Yes. There is one free full-length test in the same format as the paid tests. You only need a free account to take it.

How long does access last?

Published practice tests you buy stay available on your account for 12 months from the date of purchase. Tests sold before publication open automatically once enough new tests are published to fill the remainder of your pack; their 12 months of access start on the day they open. Nothing renews and nothing is charged again.

Can I get a refund?

Practice tests, question banks and AI Tutor time are digital content. You can ask for a refund of a digital product you have not used within 14 days of the payment date. A product counts as used once any practice test in the pack has been started, any question in a paid section of the question bank has been opened, or any second of AI Tutor time has been used; a used product is not refunded. If you are charged twice by mistake, contact us and the duplicate charge is refunded.
